Relief Operation and Housing Project

At the height of typhoon Juan in 2010, which centered in Isabela province, devastations were everywhere. Coastal towns of Palanan, Divilacan, Maconacon and Dinapigue were the most affected area. Thousands of houses were destroyed and millions of pesos were lost in terms of agriculture and infrastructure. One of the OFM parishes in the province, St. Mary Magdalene, who covers the apostolic guidance of the said coastal towns, sought aid and relief operation for the community. The parish launches the Operation Bangon Muli, a relief and rehabilitation project in cooperation with the Simbahang Lingkod ng Bayan-Diocese of Ilagan. Other Franciscan parishes and movements including the OFM JPIC office, lend a hand to assist and support the project.

Another help came when the Missionszentrale der Franziskaner (MZF) approved the propose housing project initiated by the OFM JPIC office. This aims to provide financial assistance for the reconstruction of the houses damaged by the typhoon. The amount received covered fifty three housing units (53). Beneficiaries were chosen among the poorest of the poor in the community.

As per the report of Bro. Mario Ricablanca, OFM, assigned as friar guardian in St. Mary Magdalene Parish in Palanan, forty six (46) houses were finished and occupied already. Seven (7) units are still on the 85% construction. They are hopeful to finish the remaining units (if the weather continues to be fair) sooner or later than August.
