STAGES OF FORMATION


Formation to the religious life begins with the pastoral care of vocation and reaches its finality in the solemn profession of vows to the Franciscan religious life. During the initial formation, the candidate is challenge to go through the initial process of conversion. A clear manifestation of the candidate’s conversion is signified by his freedom to embrace the values proper for someone who wants to become a religious Franciscan.

 

FORMATION PROGRAM ACCORDING TO STAGES

 

A.      INITIAL FORMATION



1. ASPIRANCY AND PRE-POSTULANCY


Objectives:

Human – to help the aspirant reach a degree of maturity expected of his age and help him grow as a person with potentials in physical, intellectual, emotional, psycho-sexual and social life.

Christian – to introduce the aspirant to the basic tenets of our Christian faith and to nurture in him the aspiration to live the Christian way of life.

Franciscan – to introduce the candidate to St. Francis of Assisi, his spirituality and lifestyle, and to provide the aspirant with an initial experience of living in a community of brothers.


Venue:   Our Lady of the Angels Seminary, Bagbag, Novaliches, P.O. Box 192 1116 Quezon City, Philippines


Duration:

1. Four years for High School Graduates

2. Two to Three years for College Undergraduates

3. One year for College Graduates

Note: Aspirants or Pre-Postulants who do not take the four year College course shall be assessed and evaluated thoroughly so they can take as much as possible all the contents of the Aspirancy Program either as a credit or audit course in the Our Lady of the Angels College and also in the Formation Conferences.

 


2.  POSTULANCY        

                                         

Objectives:

Human – to help the postulant attain a certain degree of maturity necessary to begin his formation to the consecrated life.

Christian – to enliven in the postulant the desire to be in touch with the person of Jesus and the Christian way of life.

Franciscan – to assist the postulant in identifying the social-ecclesial realities that help shape his vocation.

 

Venue: Santuario de San Pedro Bautista Postulancy House, SFDM, Quezon City


Duration: One Year

3.  NOVITIATE


Objectives:

Human – to assist the novice in clarifying his motivation as he actually begins to live his consecrated life.

Christian – to introduce the novice to a deeper and more living knowledge of Jesus Christ, and of the radical demands of discipleship.

Franciscan – to continue the discernment of the novice’s decision to follow Christ according to the spirit of St. Francis while learning and experiencing the Franciscan form of life.


Venue:  Juan de Plasencia Novitiate House, Laguan, Liliw, Laguna


Duration:  One Year

4.  POST-NOVITIATE

 

Objectives:

Human – to continue and deepen the process of human development of the temporary professed friar.

Christian – to broaden and deepen the temporary professed friar’s understanding and following of Jesus Christ and His Gospel message in the socio-cultural context.

Franciscan – to deepen his identity as friar minor by equipping him with adequate foundation in the Franciscan lifestyle and brotherhood to which he will fully commit himself for life.

2)      Kasama


Venue (Theological and Pastoral Formation):  Inter-Congregational Theological Center

5. INTEGRATION AND INTENSIFICATION YEAR (Franciscan Year)


Objectives:

Human – to integrate and intensify the resources, motivation and lifestyle necessary to make his final commitment to the Franciscan consecrated life.

Christian – to enable the friar to express more radically his baptismal commitment by living the evangelical counsels.

Franciscan – to deepen his identity as a friar minor by equipping him with adequate foundation in the Franciscan lifestyle and brotherhood to which he will fully commit himself for life.


Venue:  San Damiano Retreat House, Baguio City


Duration:  One year
