REMEMBERING OUR BELOVED DEAD

REMEMBERING OUR BELOVED DEAD

Last November 2, 2016, in the name of the whole fraternity of the Province of San Pedro Bautista, the friars in Metro Manila gathered together at La Loma Cemetery, to pray for the eternal peace of the souls of all the friars who once worked as missionaries and as members of the Provincial Fraternity. It was a simple yet very solemn affair.

During the celebration of the Mass for the Dead, Fr. Dexter Toledo, OFM read the names of all the dead friars who had ministered in the Philippines. The reading of the names was accompanied by the ringing of the mindfulness bell which gave the moment a very solemn mood. The Litany of the Saints for the dead was also read.

Fr. Cielito Almazan, OFM presided the whole celebration. During his homily he invited some senior friars to sing the traditional song “O Sanctisima Anima”. Unfortunately, most of the senior friars could not recall the melody of the song any more.

Sr. Jean Manlangit, SPC, the sister of Fr. Eli Manlangit, OFM and the late Fr. Nestor Manlangit, OFM also attended the liturgy for the Franciscan dead. She was accompanied by some sisters.

The whole celebration ended with each one placing lighted candles at the tomb of the friars.
